Heb 4:9-10 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
KJV
How do we find the rest promised in verse nine above is our question for this week. First, believe God. Second, put away the sin that hinders us. This morning we see that we need to stop doing things on our own. (Verse ten.) We need to cease from our own works. It is natural that we want to do things for ourselves. As a pastor I visit with many who have grown older and cannot do the things they used to do as age has changed things. Most all of them fear being a burden to others, they would rather do for themselves. We need to understand that as born again believers in Christ just how much we need the Lord to be working in our lives. Jesus said “Without me ye can do nothing”. I miss rest when I try and do things on my own. Big things, little things, I need Jesus to help me and do for me today. In what type of things? In all tings. As we go through this life we would find rest, much needed rest, if we would turn all over to Jesus. There are times I am concerned with the physical things that have come into my life. Jesus said to give them to Him. There are times when I am concerned with financial things. Jesus said give them to Him. There are times when I am concerned about my children and grandchildren. Jesus said to give them to Him. Why should I labor and toil over those things and others when Jesus said to give them to Him? I need to stop trying to work through things and give them to Jesus, I need to stop trying to do things on my own. Could that also be a problem for you? Give all to Jesus and rest in Him.
