June 20th, 2023 by Pastor SolleyHeb 4:9-10 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Ever find yourself in need of rest? It is a common thing to be tired, to be physically worn out at times and be in need of a rest. But in verse nine above it is not that type of rest that is spoken of. In verse ten it is but in verse nine not. The words rest in these verses come from two very different Greek words. In verse nine is speaks of a haven of rest, a place where one is at peace, a heavenly repose. That is the rest that is most needed in this world today and a rest that is promised to the child of God. Yet I find in this context that the type of rest we need the most can be missed in this world. (Heb 3:19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.) What can we do to enter into the rest that God has promised us in this world? Several things in this passage that we will consider the remainder of this week. First, we need to believe God and take God at His Word. The problem with Israel is that they would not believe God and refused to enter into that Promised Land. (Heb 4:2 , 6 (2 )For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. (6)
Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:) God promised to cast the giants out of the land but they would not believe. Doubt will keep all of us from rest. Do you believe God today? Most answering yes to that question are not fully trusting in the Lord. Why do we spend sleepless night in worry? Why are so many overtaken by anxiety and fear? Why does the peace of God seem to avoid so many so much of the time? Because we do not trust or fully believe God. If they had only trusted and believed God they would have entered into rest and not have had to spend another forty years looking for that rest. The first step on the pathway to rest is to trust God. Remember our God is quick and powerful. (Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.) Believe God today, trust God today.
