Judg 6:11-13 And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

In honor of Memorial Day one week from today we will look at a very unlikely warrior this week. Who is God looking for to stand in the gap for Him? Who is God looking for to stand in this spiritual battle today? We find one that God was looking for in Gideon. Notice this morning that Gideon was a simple yet hard working man. (Verses 11-12) The word valour in verse 12 points to one who was active. Gideon under difficult circumstances was working to provide for family. Many in Israel had given up as their enemy destroyed the fields and stole away any harvest. But Gideon was active. Are you active in the spiritual battle we are engaged in today? I know many professing Christians who have all but given up as we see the way our nation is turning away from God, as we see society moving at a very rapid pace away from God. But we can be active in the battle, we can become more active in prayer, more active in telling others about Jesus Christ, more active than we have ever been in the work of the Lord. It would have been the easy thing for Gideon to just give up and give in but he was found at work by the angel. Will that angel find you at work for the Lord today? Will that angel find you active in prayer today? Will that angel find you a voice for the Lord Jesus Christ today? What will that angel find you doing today?
