May 16th, 2023 by Pastor SolleyPs 102:1-7 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee.
2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
3 For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth.
4 My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.
5 By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.
6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the desert.
7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.
KJV
David knew the God that we looked at yesterday in a very close and personal way and yet there were times when that great man of God felt so very alone. (Verse 7) He often saw that one sparrow alone on a house top just as we might see one sitting alone on an electric wire today. There are millions of sparrows and yet we see that one alone and that is exactly how David felt in this Psalm. David felt lower than low. (Ps 102:9-11 For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping, 10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and cast me down. 11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.) What to do? David could sink deeper and deeper into depression. David could get angry with God and all those around Him. David could drown himself in pity. What to do? David decided to pray and plead for the presence of God to be felt in his life. (Ps 102:1-2 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee. 2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.) Are there times when it seems to you God has moved away from you? Are there times when His presence seems to be gone? Those times come more than most would like to admit, even those close to the Lord Jesus Christ as David was. The thing to do then is to pray and ask in a very specific way for God to allow you to feel His presence. When he felt so alone David asked for the very presence of God to be felt. (Ps 102:2 Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble;…) Before a request was made to be delivered from the trouble that surrounded Him David wanted to feel the presence of God. Is that presence felt in your life today? If that answer is no then get apart and alone, yes alone, with God. Turn off all distractions, put your cell phone away and seek the presence of God. God is not so very far away but many times we place things before God and us and those things need to be removed. When you are so very alone take time to pray and ask for God to make His presence known. David did just that.
