KJV
“Why doesn’t the Lord just take me home? Why am I still here?” These are questions often asked when one grow older and life changes. People grow tired and think they are of very little value. But Jesus did not pray that we be taken out of this world and in this chapter when Jesus prays for us today we find purpose in life. We are to bring glory to His name and we are to live a separated life for Christ in this world as we have noted the past two days. This morning we see that we are to be found bring others to Jesus Christ. (John 17:18-20 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;) Note verse twenty. The words that we give the world are to be from the very Word of God. We are sent out to be a witness, we are still here that we might be a witness to the lost. What can those who are lost in sin and apart from eternal life in Jesus Christ see in our witness? They can see a life changed that brings glory to God the Father and Jesus Christ. They can see one separated unto Jesus Christ and the better life we have. And they can hear from us the gospel message so that they also can have what Jesus has given us. Those things never need change even as we grow older. We are here to be used of the Holy Spirit in bringing others to Jesus Christ. Never lose sight of that purpose. I visited a dear lady in a hospital just recently and was able to leave a gospel tract that an aid or a nurse can read. I would have never been in that hospital if that dear Christian was not there. Even in a hospital bed she can fulfill God’s eternal purpose.
