2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

People are afraid of many things today, but are those fears justified? Fear of a collapsing economy, fear of sickness, fear of government, fear of an uncertain future, people seem to be afraid of many things. But do they fear the right things? The Pharisees feared the people and so they plotted against Jesus. How can they arrange His death in light of His popularity? They should have feared God and not the people. (Rev 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.) They should have feared Jesus Christ and the judgment that would come because of their rejection of Him. (John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.) What is it and who is it that you fear today? Is that fear justified? I know people who do fear the government. I know some who fear sickness and disease so much that they have isolated themselves. I know others who worry over the economy and fear a collasp. I know some who fear an uncertain future. All those fears can be taken away when we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Fear is taken away when we are born again realizing just how much Jesus loves us. (1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear:…) Jesus is perfect and He does love us. Jesus died for us and can save us if we call out to Him in faith. Jesus is able then to take care of our every need. What if those in our reading this morning would have feared God, would have feared Jesus and received Him as their Savior? Then they would be in heaven today and not in hell because they feared the right one. Receive Jesus today and let Him take away your fears.
