March 17th, 2023 by Pastor Solley1 Kings 19:19-21 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

Another lessons from the life of Elisha this morning. Elisha was willing to take up the mantle of Elijah. In taking that simple article of clothing Elisha was saying that he was willing to walk with the prophet of God, willing to walk with God, willing to serve God. Elisha knew what Elijah had gone through in serving the Lord God, in speaking the Word of God and he was willing to go through the same. Elisha had other options. To be plowing with twelve yoke of oxen points to wealth as most people would have no more than one team of oxen if they had that. Elisha had a family that was close. Elisha had a successful life, wealth, a loving family, Elisha had other options. But nothing would be better than a life walking close to the Lord, a life serving the Lord. We also have other options and they may not be the same ones that Elisha had but we do have other options. But there is no better life than one spent walking close to the Lord, no better life than one spent serving the Lord. Let go of your other options and give all to Christ today.
