March 15th, 2023 by Pastor Solley2 Kings 2:1-8 And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the Lord hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the Lord hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.

Another lesson from the life of Elisha this morning. Elisha had been with Elijah for about ten years at this point and had been faithful in serving with and for that great man of God. Note that even after ten years Elisha was not going to be separated from Elijah. Why? Because Elijah was the voice of God at that time, Elijah spoke for Jehovah to the people, Elijah had the word of truth and Elisha was not going to be separated from Him. How is it that professing Christians seem to tire of the things of God and the Word of God today? So many who were once so faithful to the house of God and the work of God seem to slowly fade away. Once they would never miss a church service and now they seem to be indifferent to the services of the local church. Once the fire of the Word of God burned within and now they seldom pick up the Bible through the week. Once they would not think of forsaking fellowship with other believers of like fath and now they always seem to have other things to do. What happens over time? What should happen is that our determination to remain close to the Lord Jesus Christ, faithful to His church, obedient to His Word should increase over time. As we look back at how good God has been to us we should be determined to be of good for Him. Elisha did not fade away over time and neither should we.
