Our next stop in looking at the command from Jesus to be of good cheer takes us to troubled waters. (Matt 14:26-28 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. 27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.) The disciples, following the request of Jesus, were out on the sea as a violent storm came up. According to a time line that one can construct using the accounts from the Bible they had been a storm for several hours struggling to keep the boat from being swamped and trying to get to the other shore line. Finally they see Jesus coming and hear His voice cry out “Be of good cheer, it is I”. Jesus knew the storm was coming, Jesus sent them out onto the water, and Jesus was there to take care of them. Not one of us like the storms that arise in our lives and not one of us must face them alone. Just as Jesus knew all that was happening that night Jesus knows all that is taking place in our lives today. It may seem in our minds that we have been forgotten or forsaken but we have not and never will be. Look for Jesus is the storm you are in right now and call out to Him for He is walking beside you and will keep you. Nothing will ever touch us in this world that He does not know about and cannot carry us through. Take your eyes off the storm and the waves my friend and look to the one who can calm your troubled seas.
