Titus 2:12-15 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
KJV
We have been looking at why Jesus died for us this week and while Jesus died first to make a sacrifice for sin that whosoever will may have eternal life through Him and His shed blood that is not the only result of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus also died that we might serve Him. (Verse 14) So that we could be zealous of good works. I remember when I was a young boy and would finish a task I was given by my father how I would wait for his reaction. Was he pleased? Did I do a good job? When he was pleased it brought a good feeling and that helped me want to do an even better job the next time. Our heavenly Father is pleased when we serve Him and especially when we are zealous. That word in our text means that we would covet the opportunity to serve our Savior. It means we have a great desire to serve Jesus Christ. Jesus does not need us to serve Him to accomplish His purpose in this world, but He does allow us to serve. Are you zealous of good works?
