Titus 2:12-15 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
KJV
Jesus Christ died that we might have eternal life through His shed blood on the cross. But there is much more to the sacrifice of Christ for us. We noted that Jesus died so that we would no longer have to live in bondage to sin, His blood can set us free from a lifestyle of sin. Jesus also died so that we might have hope in this dark world for Jesus is coming again as He promised. Note this morning that Jesus also died so we could be peculiar. (Verse 14) Are you peculiar? The Greek word translated peculiar here means beyond usual. It points to one who is not the same. Same as what? Same as the world my friend. The believer in Christ is to be different, to live by a different standard, to think different, to talk different, to dress different, to act different, to stand out and apart from the world. When was the last time someone noticed that you were different? For the child of God that is walking with God it will be a common occurrence, you will seem peculiar. In most settings it is not a compliment to be called peculiar, but when God calls us peculiar and people see us as peculiar it is a high compliment. Jesus died so you could be peculiar.
