Joel 2:16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

Why this command for the bride to come out of her closet? Making now a spiritual application we find that the born again believer makes up the bride of Christ. (Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.) We need as Christians to come out and make ourselves known as Christians because secret Christians are of very little value to the Lord or in the world. Consider Jonah who was a secret Christian. What value was Jonah as he hid his identity? What of the seven thousand in Israel who left Elijah stand alone to face Ahab and the prophets of Baal? What of the Pharisees who believed and kept their faith a secret? What value were any of those and what value is the secret Christian today? We are not called to hide the light that is within us, we are called to let it shine. We are not called to keep silence, we are called to spread the gospel message. Of what value is the secret Christian? The only hope for America today is Jesus Christ and the gospel and we need to make known the life that Christ has given us and has for all who will repent and receive.
