Eccl 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
KJV
We do have a threefold cord available to us as believers in Christ that is not quickly broken. That first strand is our relationship with Jesus Christ through the new birth made possible by His shed blood on the cross. The second cord in the Bible, the forgotten book. But it needs to be a book precious to the child of God, a book that provides comfort, strength and most important direction in our lives. The Bible should be our guide through this world, our lamp and light that takes us through this path of life. A third cord is the local church. It could be said that Jesus is a forgotten savior to the world, the Bible a forgotten book to man, and the church a forgotten station in the life of many a professing Christian. We need the church today more than at any other time in history. Where do you hear about Jesus? Where is the Word of God proclaimed? Where can we find right fellowship? Where can we be encouraged? And yes, where can we be corrected by sound doctrine? All in the local church. But how quickly so many turn away from the church and for any reason. Will you be in church on Sunday, were you in church for the midweek service? Are you active in the church? Do you make the church house a priority in your Christian walk? There are very few people in America today who can answer yes to all of those questions. But we need all three cords to make up a strong rope that is not quickly broken.
