Daily Devotions
January 2nd, 2023 by Pastor Solley1 Cor 2:1-5 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
KJV
As we begin 2023 I wonder if there has been a time when the demonstration of the power of God has been needed more than in this present time. That a statement and not a question. People need to see the power of God today and they need to see that power demonstrated in the lives of professing Christians, in the lives of professing born again believers in Christ. In our day and age we are witnessing the power of God, rather the demonstration of that power in the lives of Christians diminish. We are in that time as the Bible says in the book of Revelation that the church has a little strength. It was and remains the desire of Christ that His church, His children, the believer in Christ be filled with power. (Acts 1:7-8 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.) Yet this power is seldom seen today in the lives of God’s people. The power has not diminished, the source of that power is still there, but it has been replaced by other things and the church has weakened and Christians have weakened. How to get back to that power in our lives, how to get back to where God wants us to be, how to demonstrate that power of God. That will be the subject of our devotions this week. For this morning let us ask ourselves this question; are people able to see the power of God in me? What do people see when they look at me? Do they see a life changed by the power of God or do they hear a testimony with little or no evidence to back it up? Paul came to those believers with a testimony. (Verse one.) But Paul also came with evidence to back up his testimony, he came in the power of God. What do people see when they look at me?
