1 Thess 5:18-19 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Quench not the Spirit.
KJV
Another reason to be thankful as we end our week. To be unthankful is to quench the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Many times as our children were growing up and they needed or wanted something that was going to be given to them we would withhold that until they said “Thank you”. God wants us to be thankful as well. The Holy Spirit is our comforter, He is our guide, He gives us wisdom into the things of God, He assists us in prayer and so many other things as well. To quench the Holy Spirit is to hinder His working in our lives and cut ourselves off from all that God has for us. Be that comfort, encouragement, wisdom, guidance and whatever else we need from Him we have hindered His working. We need to stop and give thanks to God instead of always complaining before God. Just think of how much God has done for you and how very few times you have stopped to thank Him. Did you thank God for allowing you the health to get out of bed this morning? Did you thank God for your job today? Did you thank God for the clothes you put on this morning? Did you thank God for the car you have to drive? Did you thank God for your spouse, for your children today? Did you thank God for eyes that can see, ears that can hear, a mouth that can talk today? Have often do you stop to count your blessings before you bring even more requests before God? Be thankful and not one that continues to quench the Spirit and then wonders why God isn’t doing even more for you.
