1 Thess 5:18-19 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Quench not the Spirit.
KJV
As was noted yesterday this command to give thanks in every thing is often a difficult one to obey. One thing that helps is to look back at what God has already done for us in our lives, to remember the uncountable blessings of the Lord. Another thing that can make this command easier to obey is to look the other direction. As we look ahead to what awaits the born again believer in Christ we can give thanks unto the Lord, give thanks for the will of God, give thanks for the Lord Jesus Christ. For the Christian this world in not our home. The troubles of this life, the heartaches, the sorrows, the pain, the sickness, the trials and so on are all going to pass away one day. When that takes place we will find ourselves forever and ever in the presence of the Lord. There are times we may forget that we are just passing through this world and that our time here is short. Look back over the years, see how quickly they have passed and then look ahead to eternity. As the great hymn says “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus”. Worth it all because we will have and eternity to give thanks in every thing to our Savior.
