19 Quench not the Spirit.

Continuing with the theme of thanksgiving and giving thanks. I find it difficult to obey the command found in verse eighteen above when I forget the many past blessings of the Lord. Not all the circumstances of life move one to give thanks. Health issues, personal problems, worries over the future, rising costs and so many more things can bring us to the point that it is very hard to give thanks for every thing. But then we take some time to look back, look back at how good God has been to us and what God has done. We look at how God has delivered, provided, and healed in the past because we depended upon our God and trusted Him in every situation. We look at how our problems have been solved when we gave them all to God in prayer. We remember many times when God answered prayer it seemed even before the words were out of our mouths. We also remember times when we were granted patience and grace as we waited on the Lord. And we even remember times when the answer was no and we didn’t understand but came to find out that God did know what was best for us. So we look at things going on around us, in our lives and the lives of those close to us and we can say “Thank you Lord for your will” in my life and the lives of those close to me.” It is not so hard to obey the command to give thanks in every things if we just look back for a moment at what God has already done.
