November 14th, 2022 by Pastor SolleyDeut 6:4-12 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

My thoughts this week turn to Thanksgiving although that holiday is still eleven days away. As we consider our Scripture text this morning we see Israel blessed by Jehovah God. They are still making their way to the Promised Land and God gives them a warning. (Deut 6:12 Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.) With all that the Lord had done for them how could Israel ever forget? But they would forget and they would turn away from the Lord. Why? They were not thankful for the past blessings of God. How easy it is for us to forget what God has done for us. God had commanded Israel to write the Word of the Lord on their posts of their houses, on their gates, and keep the Word of God ever before them. What would have happened if they had obeyed that command? We will never know but there is a lesson there for us. What would happen if we made a list of the blessings of God, the things God has done for us, the prayers that have been answered, the protection and provisions of God in the past. What if we made a list of those things just as we make a prayer list of the things we need? I wonder if we would be a more thankful people and I also wonder if that might open the windows of heaven and see more blessings poured out upon us and more prayers answered? Are you thankful today for what God has done for you? Why not make a list and see just how thankful we should be?
