November 7th, 2022 by Pastor Solley1 Kings 2:1-3 Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying,
2 I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man;
3 And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

David is old and feeble, he knows that his time in this world is coming quickly to an end and he wants to leave his son Solomon some advice to follow. Solomon would be the next king over Israel and he needed advice. Solomon needed advice on how to rule the people justly, on how to defend the nation in time of war, on how to choose mighty and wise men to stand with him, and many more things that his father David could help him with. What then is the first and most important thing David told his son? To walk with the Lord. If Solomon would be a man, a true man who could lead the nation of Israel he needed to walk with the Lord, keep God’s commandments, walk in the statutes of the Lord God. What better advice could be given? Solomon, walk with God. What better advice could we receive to begin our day today than to walk with God. When Solomon did that the nation and the king prospered. When he did not things fell apart. (Read the book of Ecclesiastes to see Solomon when he decided he did not need to walk with God.) Let us walk with God today in all areas of our lives and truly know how good was the advice David gave to Solomon.
