1 Sam 27:1-2 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
KJV
How easy it is to imagine the worst in our minds. David did have a powerful enemy in Saul who had turned away from the Lord. By no fault of his own David was hated by Saul. All David had done was try and help the king. David was loyal to the king. David went out against Goliath because no one else, not even Saul was willing to. David was not perfect but his actions toward Saul were. Now David would perish by the hand of Saul or so he thought. So it is with us at times when we do our best in following the Lord. We are not perfect for sure but we try and do what is good and right in the sight of God. Then an enemy arises and often from a place we did not expect. What to do? In David’s case there was already a promise made and a promise made by God. How could David be the next king, how could God keep His promise if Saul killed David? Instead of trusting in the Lord and the promises of God David allowed his mind to take over and that made his heart faint. How easy it is to imagine the worst in our minds. Why not do what David learned to do later on? Trust in the Lord, meditate upon His Word, claim His promises in our lives, and pray. God protected David and those six hundred men as they fled from Saul but I wonder if David ever had to flee at all.
