18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

The Bible tells us that Elijah was a man of like passions as we are. He had the same feelings we do, the same wants, desires, short comings and strengths. Elijah was an ordinary man. Yet there was an area of his life that was so much higher and deeper than most of ours, his prayer life. Elijah was a man powerful in prayer. But when we read of the man in the Old Testament we find nothing that would set him apart other than the time he was willing to spend with the Lord in prayer. He was not educated, he did not come from a great town or city, not from nobility, nothing that would set him apart from any of us. He was truly a man of like passions. What set him apart was the time he spent with the Lord. What of the time we spend with the Lord? Many who complain that God is not answering their prayers spend little time with the Lord in prayer. How much time will you spend with the Lord today? Will it be an hour or two? Or will it be a minute or two. Most Christians today are prone to spending the minute and not the hour. But the old hymn states that it is a sweet hour of prayer. Why not begin to spend more time in prayer, put the example of Elijah to the test and see if our prayers begin to move the hand of God as His did.
