Kings 18:41-45 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

I was listening to the thunder and rain storm early this morning and my mind turned to this passage of Scripture as I thought of the sound of abundance of rain. Rain is something we need in our area and something they needed much, much more in Elijah’s day. What we need as much as they did is the blessings of God in our lives. This rain is a blessing as rain was for them for they had been in a drought for three and one half years. Only a few months here but we still look to the Lord to open the windows of heaven and pour out the rain. What about our lives today, do we stand in need of showers of blessings as the old hymn states? If that answer is yes then why not do what the prophet did in that day? Lift our eyes to heaven and pray. Pray for those showers of blessings. But we also need to do the other things they did as well. They had just eliminated the false prophets, rid the land of the idols and turned to the Lord in practice as well as in word. For the believer today it seems the showers of blessings can be found falling on us as we lift ourselves up to the Lord. I am listening right now to the sound of abundance of rain and it is a soothing and beautiful sound. Much better is the sound of blessings falling from heaven as one walks with the Lord day by day.
