In order for our death in this life to be precious in heaven we must first see our sin. It is the wages of sin that brought death into this world and all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. If we do not see our sin we will never see the need for a savior. The next step in salvation is to see Jesus, see the savior, see the cross. In our text the Psalmist speaks of all the benefits of the Lord. These begin with the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Nothing else can we claim until we claim the cross. It is on the cross Jesus suffered, bled, and died for our sins. (Ps 116:4 Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.) We can only be delivered from death and hell by the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. (Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.) Jesus Christ died on that cross for all. (Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.) Jesus died on that cross for sinners and according to the Bible all have sinned so then Jesus died for all. Because Jesus died for all, all can be saved by Him. (2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.) But because Jesus Christ died for all and all can be saved does not mean all will be saved. One must see sin and then see the savior, see the cross. Where are you looking for deliverance today? Is it good works, good intentions, religion? Have you looked at the cross, looked to Jesus? He and He alone is able to forgive sin and grant eternal life in heaven. (Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.) Look to the cross today and be saved.
