Ps 116:12-15 What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?
13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
KJV
I stand today, unless God intervenes with a special miracle of healing, to lose a very good friend. He will not be lost because I know where he will be, where he will spend eternity. At a time like this I often think of Psalm 116:15. What causes such pain here is precious in heaven and that because of Jesus and the work of salvation on the cross. When one looks to Jesus at a time of loss, when one looks at the cross, that also beings a degree of preciousness to those who have to remain in this world for a while longer. I want to look at the Savior this week, look at the cross, look at salvation and look at heaven. The first look needs to be at self and sin and what that sin nature does to all of us. (Ps 116:3 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.) It is sin that brings sorrows, it is sin that brings pain, it is sin that brings trouble. It is sin that brings death. All that is wrong with this world is because of sin. Sin brings death and that death and sorrow will compass all of us because all have been born into sin, all have been born with a sin nature. (Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:) Some live long lives, some short lives, some in between, but all will die one day because of the sin nature we are born with. Nothing can change that. Advances in medicine and science will not change the fact that all will die. No good works, no good heart, no good intentions will change the fact that all will die. No church or religion will change it. The first step in salvation needs to be a look at self and sin. Do you know you are a sinner today and that you will die because of that sin nature you have been born with? Do you know there is nothing that you or anyone else in this world can do about that? Until one sees themself as a sinner in need of salvation they will never look to the cross. Look within today.
