June 1st, 2022 by Pastor SolleyLuke 10:38-42 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
KJV
All the things that Martha was doing in this account were needful. Visitors, and one very important, had been received into her home. Most likely there was much cleaning that went on before hand, a meal needed to be prepared and served, things needed to be cleaned up, places to sleep made ready and so on and so forth. There was just as much for Martha to do as there is when a guest is coming into your home today. All that she was doing was needful. But she was so cumbered about the cares of this world, needed as they were, that she failed to make time to be with the Lord, to sit at the feet of Jesus. Mary chose the that good part. With all that we have to do in this busy word today we must be careful not to be so cumbered that we forget to sit at the feet of Jesus. The things we do may be needed, but we need Jesus and a close walk with Him more. It seems that most of the people I talk with today are busy, that they don’t have enough time to get everything done. I wonder what part they neglect? Could it be that good part? Could it be that is the very reason so many of God’s people seem to be so distressed today? Be careful not to be so cumbered by the world that you neglect that good part.
