KJV
As born again believers in Jesus Christ we are viewed as sons of God. (Rom 8:14-16 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:) With that position in Christ secured I think of a cry that came from the cross from the very Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, a cry that never needs come from the mouth of the believer in Christ. “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Why was the very Son of God left alone? Because He was willing to take our sin, my sin upon Himself. My heavenly Father will never turn His back upon me, that is the promise of Hebrews 13:5. But He did turn away from Jesus as He hung upon that cross. That is the greatness of the love of Jesus for you and for me, for all of us, that He was willing to suffer and die alone. Even in our darkest hours we will never be left alone if we have been born again. But my Jesus was left alone, all alone, and all because He loves me. That is a thought that I cannot get over. I was overwhelmed by that truth when I was saved and over fifty years later I still cannot get over it.
