37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Another thing about Jesus in prayer is His complete submission to the will of the Father. Jesus knows that with God all things are possible. (Matt 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.) “If it be possible” in our text is not a question, it is a statement to the fact that with God all things are possible. Jesus here is in complete submission to the will of the Father as we should be in our lives and in our prayers today. There are many things that I am praying about, many concerns, many worries, many situations that are well beyond my control. So what to do? Pray? But pray in what manner? Should I always be asking God to do things the exact way that I want in the exact time that I want? Or should I as Jesus submit to the will of the Father in all things? We all know the answer to that but knowing the answer does not make it easier to do day by day. Where did Jesus get the strength to endure the trial that was in front of Him? In prayer apart and alone with the Father as we noted earlier. In prayer partners taking His inner circle with Him to pray. And in complete submission to the will of the Father. We will find strength as well to endure the trials of this life when we follow the example of Jesus.
