Mark 11:22-26 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
KJV
Another hindrance to prayer is bitterness and an unforgiving nature. We are born with a tendency toward both and only the new birth gives an opportunity to get beyond both. But it not a certainty, only an opportunity. It is our fleshly nature to hold onto things that have angered us and as we hold onto them there is that root of bitterness that the Bible speaks about. (Heb 12:15
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;) This root defiles and destroys all that allow it to grow and it is one very difficult to be rid of. Only by becoming more Christ like can we defeat the nature we were born with, only by allowing the Holy Spirit to control our lives and thoughts, only by allowing our new nature to grow can the old nature be defeated in our lives. Note above that we do not need an apology to forgive, we just need to forgive. Does it seem at times your prayers are hindered? Follow the passage we have been looking at this week. Have faith in God, be sure the desires of your heart and the things you ask for align with His will and His Word, and forgive as Jesus forgave you. Perhaps then we would begin to see the mountains before us cast into the sea.
