February 15th, 2022 by Pastor Solley1 John 2:20-27 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
KJV
According to my Greek dictionary part of the meaning of the word unction is to have a smearing. It does mean a oneness, a special endowment of the Holy Spirit when one receives the Lord Jesus Christ as personal savior, an anointing of the Holy Spirit. But it also means a smearing, to be marked. When I happen to be working on something, a car, a mower, something like that I will often find grease on my hands, under my fingernails. It will come off after a few times of washing, but I have been smeared by grease and it has left a mark. It is a mark others can see. I wonder if others can see that I have been smeared by the Holy Spirit, marked by the Holy Spirit? That will only happen of I am close to Him, if I am spending time with Him, time with my God. To be smeared by grease I need to have hands on. To be smeared by the Holy Spirit I also need to be hands on and to allow His hands to be on me. I need to be spending time in prayer and more time in prayer. I need to be reading my Bible and meditating upon the Word of God. And I need to be actively serving Christ. Then I will be smeared by a mark others can see. Can others see a smearing in you, a mark that lets them know you have that unction?
