February 11th, 2022 by Pastor Solley1 Tim 6:5-6 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Another thought about being content this morning. The phrase “Great gain” is found only one time in the Bible and that in our reading for this morning. Most people in this world today are concerned about gain, about getting ahead, about making as much money as possible, about getting as many worldly things as possible. Most people want gain and more than that they want great gain. While there is nothing wrong with getting ahead most people get things out of perspective. What is going to make me content in this world? A bigger house, a new car, a bigger bank account, all of those things amount to gain. But will they make me content? Not according to the Bible. What can make me content and bring to me great gain in this world? Godliness. Knowing Christ, following Christ, serving Christ, being satisfied with the will of God in my life, those things will bring me contentment. A Christian keeping these things in a Biblical perspective may not seemed to have gained much as far as the world in concerned but according to the Word of God they have found great gain and are one of the few who are truly content.
