I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

The place of refuge under the wings of our savior is a place of both power and softness. His power protects us, his softness comforts us and we begin to trust Him more and more. Fear can be taken away even though there is a terror outside, even though the enemy shoots his arrows at us. We now are protected and safe. There indeed is a pestilence that walks in the darkness. We see that today. The same word is used in verse six for pestilence as in verse three, a murrain that seems to be able to overtake all in its path. But not the believer who chooses to dwell under the wings of the Almighty God. We cannot say that the Christian will never get ill, never die, but we can say that even in the gravest of danger and trouble we can find that sweet place of refuge, that place of comfort and rest under His wings.
