2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Delivered from the snare and pestilence we find our selves in a place of calm, quiet, protection as we are under his wings. I have watched as a hen has covered her chicks under her wings when she perceived there was danger approaching. I witnessed it as well in the wild with a turkey and her newly hatched peeps. The danger was still there or was still approaching, but the young ones knew nothing about it, they were covered and protected. We also find the protection that the hymn writer speaks of when we are under His wings, safely abiding forever. The troubles we are facing, the danger that has come upon us does not at once disappear, but we are sheltered and protected. I talked with a man just yesterday that has terminal cancer and has been dealing with it for a while now. There have been special prayer meetings held for him, many churches are praying for him including ours, and he loves and continues to serve the Lord as he is able. He is not an old man, one who should have many more years to live. As I talked to him about his current circumstances he said “I don’t like what I am going through, the changes in my life, but why would I get bitter against the very one who loves and saved me. Why would I ever bite the hand that feeds me?” When the trials and troubles of life come upon us, when the enemy attacks us, we can take refuge under the safety of His wings.
