1 Tim 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
KJV
Our thoughts here in America are turned to thanksgiving this week because our Thanksgiving is on Thursday and I hope to give a few thoughts about giving thanks this week as the Bible has a great deal to say about being thankful. One command concerning giving of thanks that many find hard to follow at times, myself included, is found above. How can we give thanks for all men when it seems most are evil today? How can we give thanks for all in authority when it seems most in authority are evil today? Then this thought will come to my mind, “Do I give others a reason to be thankful for me?” Others read this command in Scripture just as I do and I wonder, do I give others a reason to be thankful when they think of me? I should. I should by the life I lead, I should by the testimony I have, I should by the work I do, I should give others a reason to be thankful for me. But do I? The above command is easier to follow when I turn the spotlight on myself and try and give others a reason to be thankful for me.
