October 13th, 2021 by Pastor Solley1 Sam 17:32-37 And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
37 David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.

What gave David the confidence not only to step out onto the battlefield to face Goliath but to run to meet the enemy? No man in Saul’s army, the army of the Lord, was willing to step out. Not even Saul who was head and shoulders above all in Israel was willing to take on the giant. But David was. Why? Because David had trusted the Lord before and the Lord had delivered him. David was but a youth when he took on that lion and bear and was still a youth when he volunteered to face Goliath. David most likely was filled with fear when he had to protect his father’s sheep from those that would destroy and devour the flock, but he did it by the power of God. Now another flock is being attack by a fierce enemy and all were taken with fear. David would once again step out in faith and we know the outcome. Christian, none of us enjoy the trials that come our way but when we stand firm in the Lord we learn what faith in God will do. Then the next time a greater trial comes along we have been built up by those that came before and find once again the courage and confidence to stand with Jesus. Have you trusted in the Lord in the past? Then you can trust Him today to deliver you from all your fears and bring you through the battle that is before you.
