Most people are in some way or another afraid of the dark. We have street lights to shine in the night, lights in our homes, many have small night lights that come on in the darkness, many have motion lights to turn on when movement is detected outside and so on. Most people are afraid of the dark in one way or another and take steps to lessen that darkness. Even in hospitals it is made sure there is light all of the time. But I find that our Lord makes the darkness His secret place. This is not the only place in the Bible we find God having a secret place. (Ps 27:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.) (Ps 81:7 Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.) (Ps 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.) Now even in the darkness of trials we may be facing we find that God can and will make that darkness His secret place, a place to meet with Him, to be strengthened by Him, to be comforted and find sweet rest and peace. The darkness does not need be feared when we meet with our Lord in His secret place.
