Ps 127:1-2 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
KJV
It is very difficult to find peaceful sleep today in light of what is taking place in our nation and around the world. Most seem bent on destroying the nation I grew up in as we see the world changing before our eyes. Yet I do find that the Bible says “He giveth His beloved sleep.” That speaks of a peaceful sleep, one not interrupted by worry or fear. How can this be possible in our turbulent world? The answer is found in another verse in the Psalms. (Ps 111:9 He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.) God’s promises are sure and they are forever and when I read that verse along with Psalm 127:1 it does bring peace and provide peaceful sleep. Not one of us can change on our own what is taking place in government today, all our labor will be in vain. What we can do is place all in the capable hands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God has not promised to take care of this nation but He has promised to take care of His children. God has not stated that our nation will forever stand but God has stated that He will provide for us and never leave us. I also become very distressed watching the news today, remembering what country I grew up in and what one I live in today as we see our nation changing. But all that stress and worry leaves when I remember what God says in His Word and how He and He alone sits on the eternal throne. God is still on the throne, God is still in control and when we take that thought to bed with us we do receive that peaceful sleep, He still gives His beloved sleep.
