Jer 33:1-3 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name;
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
KJV
I was thinking about verse three above and the many things we can bring to the Lord daily. Yesterday I prayed for my family and for the Lord to work in many different ways in the lives of those so close to me. I prayed for our church family and for the Lord to work in like manner. I prayed for those on our prayer list for God to touch them in physical ways. I prayed in the home of some older saints as I asked the Lord to give them good days. I prayed over two gentlemen in the hospital and asked the Lord to heal them. I prayed over the food the Lord blessed me and our home with. I prayed giving thanks for a safe day. I prayed for the Lord to give my wife and myself a good night sleep. I prayed for the day we are now beginning. And now this morning I will pray in like manner again. What a wonderful God we have that is willing to listen as we pray and then act upon what and who we have prayed for. That being true, why do we often neglect prayer? Is it because we don’t truly believe God is listening? Is it because we don’t receive answers to our prayers? Neither one of those statements is true. Why then do we neglect to pray as we should? The only answer is that we allow the world, our flesh and the devil to keep us from prayer. If we want to see the Lord working in our lives, answering our prayers, then we need to obey the command given in Jer 33:3. We need to obey that command not once in a while, we need to make it a part of our daily lives and spend time in prayer.
