Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
KJV
The word substance used here means to have confidence that what one is standing upon is sure and concrete, that it will not fail. The chapter then names several people as examples of faith, of standing on the promises of God, of patiently waiting on the Lord. The faith of those named and unnamed in Hebrews eleven had substance. What is the substance of your faith today? Why place your faith in something or someone who cannot produce that type of substance? I know our government cannot produce that type of substance. Science cannot produce that type of substance. Medicine cannot produce that type of substance. What is the substance of your faith? By the actions of people today they have no substance to their faith and sadly that is becoming more and more true of professing Christians today. Yet we have one set before us that can and does produce that type of substance of faith in all who will fully trust in Him. We have the Lord Jesus Christ. That substance was found in each of the men and women we find in Hebrews eleven and not one of them were disappointed in the Lord Jesus Christ. We can as well find substance in Christ because He is the same today as He was for those men and women. (Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.) Why not then make Christ the substance of your faith? Why do I hear so many say that we must trust science, the medical community, the government? All of those produce no substance because all of those are constantly changing. But I have a relationship with one who has never and will never change. Do you have such a relationship with Christ, are you born again? If yes then make Him the substance of your faith.
