July 27th, 2021 by Pastor Solley2 Peter 1:1-9 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
KJV
We see again the things that our Lord wants us to add to our faith in verses five through seven above. But why is it so important these things be added and why can it be so hard to add them? Let us be clear, one is not adding to the work of salvation for Jesus finished that on the cross. One is not making salvation secure by adding these things for we are secure in Christ Jesus if they be added or not. These things are to make us better servants for the Lord and to aid us in living the victorious Christian life. Why is it so hard to add them? Because Satan is constantly working against the child of God and one way the devil does that is found in verse nine. Just as Satan blinds the minds and eyes of the lost to keep them from Christ he tries to blind the eyes and minds of the redeemed to keep us from living for the Lord. Many cannot see afar off as the Bible says, many believers become short sighted. I wear glasses because I cannot see close up, others wear them because they cannot see afar off and the glasses correct our vision. Many times as Christians we need our vision corrected by the Lord so we can see afar off. It may cost us something to add to our faith, it will take a life of dedication and sacrifice for our Lord. But we need to look back at what has been done for us by Jesus Christ and then look forward to what waits in store for the child of God. Don’t let your vision be hampered by Satan. Especially look afar off to the rewards that are laid up for us in heaven.
