Judg 16:5-6 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.
KJV
Just a small portion of the account of Samson and Delilah this morning. Samson was a man of great strength, but where did that strength come from? I picture Samson as an ordinary looking man, perhaps even on the smaller side of most people, not a muscle bound giant. Where did Samson get his strength? It was not in the length of his hair. Samson had long hair because he was a Nazarite, a man bound by an oath to God, from the time of his birth. His long hair was a sign of his vow. Samson got his strength from his relationship with the Lord, not his hair. Follow the account of the life of Samson and you find that as he moved away from the Lord he moved away from his strength. The final step was placing his life in the hands of an ungodly woman and not in the capable hands of God. Yes, his hair was cut and his strength was gone but that strength left him as he broke his vow to God and moved away from God. Where is your strength this morning? Where does your great strength lie? Is it in self, in family, in your church, in government? Where does your strength lie? The only way to find the strength we need to face today and tomorrow is to draw close to the Lord Jesus Christ. Everything and everyone else will never give us the strength we need, only Jesus. Where does your strength lie today?
