July 9th, 2021 by Pastor SolleyRom 12:6-15 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

A final thought about our short study concerning service for the Lord the past few days. One does not present themselves to the Lord, find out by prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit what spiritual gifts they have been given, and then choose an area of service in which to use those gifts. We present ourselves to the Lord and by the leading of the Holy Spirit God places us in an area of service. (Eph 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:) God is in charge of placing us in an area of service whatever that might be. We then put our gifts to use in that area and pray that God give us more grace so we can develop those gifts and even use us in the gifts we may not have been given. For example, as a pastor I know I have some of the gifts named in Romans twelve but I also know I am lacking some of those gifts. I am not one strong in encouragement or exhortation and I know that. I was brought up being taught that when things do not go well you just keep on going no matter what. Also that one does not need a pat on the back for just doing what is right. But not all people are giving to that way of thinking. People do need to be lifted up, to be encouraged with kind words when things do not go well. Others need to be given praise even for little things as that moves them to do greater things. That is also a gift from God. We use our gifts in the area in which we have been called and ask God to help us in areas we may not have been gifted in.
