Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

The thirty seventh Psalm is one of my favorites for a number of reasons. One of them being the promises in this Psalm that I have experienced in my own life as well as witnessed in the lives of other born again believers. Verses four and five set forth a promise that if we make our delight the Lord, commit our way unto Him, that He will give us the desire of our heart. My wife and I were for a time in prayer about something that we did not need but did desire. Without telling anyone else about it the Lord brought it to pass. What makes these verse apply is that it involved other people and God gave us the desire of our heart. But don’t just look at the promise as some may do, look at what we must do to see that promise come true as well. First, we need trust the Lord and obey Him. (Verse 3) That means I must trust that He is going to do all things well and do things for my good as well as others. What if I don’t get the desire of my heart? I need then to trust that it is better that it be withheld and just leave it with the Lord. I can continue to pray about it, continue to ask, but I need to trust God. Second, I need to continue to obey God. I have as well been disappointed many times, but disappointed with whom? It should never be with God, I need to continue to trust and obey as the song says. Third, I need make my delight the Lord. (Verse 4) He needs to be my joy, my light, my source of happiness and contentment, my first delight. As these things are true in my life I have made it possible for God to give to me the very desires of my heart. (More on Ps 37 tomorrow.)
