2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3 The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
KJV
Reading this little Psalm this morning I was struck by a thought from verse four. It is speaking about the folly of the unbeliever in verses two, three, and four and the Bible points to the one who thinks to prevail with his lips in verse four. Not to misapply Scripture but there is a way the born again believer in Jesus Christ can prevail with his tongue, through prayer. We can pray and as the Bible says mountains will be made low. We can pray and see miracles today just like the great men of God prayed and saw miracles in the past. We can pray and be sure God hears and answers those prayers. Why? Because the Bible says so and the words of the Lord are pure words as it tells in verse six above, the words of God are preserved forever as it tells us in verse seven. You may be surrounded by wickedness as we see in verse eight but we have something they do not have available to them, prayer. We can speak and we can prevail if those words are words of prayer lifted up to a loving and caring savior.
