1 Cor 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
KJV
This is one of three New Testament verses where we are command to be strong and here we are commanded to be strong and finish well. (Quit you like men.) How much we need to obey this command in Scripture as we see the end approaching. I am reminded of a long distance run I entered many years ago. I trained for a long time for the run and wanted to average six and a half minutes miles throughout. I had a stop watch with me to keep track of my pace and found myself for a while well under my goal. As the run went on I began to lose my pace and as I drew even with my set goal I gave a big push for the last mile and a half. I gained on my pace, found myself under again and as the finish line approached I relaxed and coasted across. My official time for the race gave me a six minute and thirty three second average. If I had only kept pushing, if only I had finished strong, finished well, I would have met my goal. We need to finish well today Christian as we see the finish line approaching. This is no time to stop serving the Lord, no time to stop moving forward, no time to relax. Many souls need to be saved, young people need to see the rewards of living the Christian life, this is no time to relax, it is a time to push on and finish well. May the challenging message of 1 Cor 16:13 be met in us today, finish well and be strong.
