Isa 35:1-4 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.
2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.
3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.
4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
KJV
The encouragement, the command to be strong is one this preacher cannot get away from right now. With all that we are seeing today, a nation divided, churches divided, families divided, there is a need for God’s people to be strong. But to what end? Will that strength in the Lord be rewarded? Above is the only place in the book of Isaiah that the command to be strong is found. I often think of what Isaiah had to endure as well as Jeremiah and the others. Preaching to a nation that would not believe the word of the Lord, persecuted, tortured, and much more. How weary those men must have gotten, how discouraged they must have been. Yet we find this in the reading this morning, that strength in the Lord would be rewarded if they just remained strong. How many times they must have wanted to give up, but be strong. How many times they must have shed bitter tears, but be strong. Be strong because one day Good is going to come, is coming and He will save. We need the very same command today, be strong.
