Ps 77:1-14 I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.
I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.
Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times.
I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.
Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?
Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore?
Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.
I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?
Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
KJV
There are times when we are just overwhelmed, so troubled it seems we cannot speak, filled with questions and finding no answers. What do we do at such times, what can we do at such times? Today we look to the psalmist for our answer. Is such a time as that he remembered the works of the Lord. (Verse 11) He then gave his mind to the works of the Lord, he meditated upon them. (Verse 12) We tend to think of meditation as one emptying their mind but Bible meditation is to fill ones mind. He filled his mind with the good things of God, he remembered just how good God was to him. Not all that long ago I began to do the same when I felt troubled and overwhelmed. One time as I went before the throne of grace in prayer I decided I needed to thank God before I asked God. Over an hour later I was still thanking God for His goodness, going all the way back to my youth, for just how good God was to me. The result was I no longer felt overwhelmed. The problem was still there but I knew God was greater than any trouble I might have. It is good to stop and remember, to meditate upon the good things of God, to give thanks.
