John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
KJV
The Lamb of God who went to the cross as a lamb unto the slaughter. (Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.) Pilate waited for Jesus to answer His accusers, but Jesus opened not His mouth. (Matt 27:12-14 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. 13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? 14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.) Why? Because Jesus went to the cross of His own free will to offer His life a sacrifice for our sin. Jesus is the Lamb of God. Many years ago I was close friends with a man who raised sheep. He told me of butchering the sheep and of how they would stand one behind the other and walk up to him as he sat on a chair, lay their head upon his lap, and he would cut their throat with a long thin knife. His son then would take the dying sheep from him and the next sheep in line would do the same as the one in front of it. As he told me this I thought of Jesus standing before the Jews and Rome without one word of protest, I thought of the Lamb of God. It was not fair what they did to Jesus, it was not right what they did to Jesus, but Jesus was and is the Lamb of God and He went willingly to the cross without one word of protest. Think about this the next time we think things unfair and complain to God.
