Daily Devotions

Matt 26:38-39 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
KJV
Jesus was exceeding sorrowful, just as many of us are many times and some are at this very moment. What did Jesus do at such a time? Jesus prayed. Jesus did what any of us can do at such a time, Jesus prayed. This prayer begins with submission and worship to the Father. This prayer brings out the close relationship Jesus maintained with the Father. This prayer brings out the truth that the Father can do anything. We conclude this week of devotions with Jesus asking for the will of the Father and not His own, “Not as I will, but as thou wilt.” What an example for us in prayer. I do not believe Jesus was praying to be delivered from the cross, that was the very reason Jesus came into this world, the cross. But what an example for us. In a moment I will be in prayer and I will ask my heavenly Father for many things trough His Son and my savior. But am I willing to ask for His will in every request? I should be and I need to be. But what if His will is not what I desire? Then my prayers will be hindered and our relationship strained and that by me and not God. Can I give up my desires and ask for His will? As I by the grace of God try and do this I find that His will often meets my desires or is far better than anything I have thought or think. By the way that is Bible. (Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,) Yesterday I was praying about something and not five minutes after I finished praying I received news that the prayer was answered, that very prayer. I thought at once of our devotions this week and thanked God for His will.
