2 Tim 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
KJV
Thirty six times in the Bible we find the words “Be strong”. Yesterday we looked at the first use of those words together in Nuumbers thirteen. Today we find the command to “Be strong and of a good courage”. (Deut 31:6-7 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.) Moses encouraging Joshua as one man of God is about to depart from this world and another take over in leading Israel. Those words would be repeated for Joshua again. (Josh 1:6-9 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.) But this time it was God speaking to Joshua. Many times we face the unknown and that is the time we most need to be assured of the Lord’s presence in our lives. Joshua was about to lead the people into the unknown. How are we going to face tomorrow? How can we get over this hurt and loss? What of the sickness we are dealing with? Many times we need the assurance that the Lord is with us. But notice God not only is with us, He will never fail us or leave us alone. Now with that truth ever before us we can find the strength to “Be strong”. Whatever it is dear brother or sister you can be, I can be strong because the Lord is with us.
