2 Tim 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
KJV
A little word study for our devotionals this week. The phrase “Be strong” is found thirty six times in the Bible. Above is the last time it is used. The most well know occur in Joshua chapter one. This morning I want to begin with the first few. (Num 13:18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many; Num 13:28
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.) These first two come from those sent before Israel into the Promised Land. They came back with the report that the enemies of Israel were strong. That report sparked fear in the people and they spent the next forty years apart from God’s blessings because of that fear. It seems today that the enemies of Christ have become very strong. There seems today to be an all out war against all that is of God. Our religious freedom is under attack, our free speech threatened, evil is called good and good evil. The enemy of faith seems to be strong. What are we to do? Certainly not to stop moving forward in the Lord because of fear. Israel did just that and it cost them the blessings of God. Would it not have been better to stand for the Lord, take on the enemies of faith, and do what God wanted them to do? They did exactly that forty years later. Why not put fear aside and continue on for the Lord today? Be strong dear Christian even in the face of all that we are seeing today. Be strong and don’t allow fear to stop us as it stopped Israel.
